River Reach at Remley's Point Neighborhood: Spectacular views, custom-built properties, and highly-desirable location make River Reach at Remley’s Point one of Charleston’s most coveted addresses.
This exclusive neighborhood stands majestically along the breezy bluffs of River Reach, near historic Charleston Harbor. The creek got it’s name from the production of rum in nearby distilleries in the 18th century. A necessary process in rum-making at that time was adding molasses to vats that needed a steady flow of air, and the windswept creek was ideal for this purpose.
River Reach is among the most exclusive neighborhoods in the historic Charleston area. This group of 23 luxury homes was carved from the scenic oak-lined banks of the Wando River, with spectacular views of dazzling sunsets and the majestic Arthur Ravenel Bridge. Most homes have deep-water docks and all benefit from the westerly breezes that come across the pristine waters.
The entrance to the neighborhood is ticked away and very private, and there are no through streets on this delightful property that was once a colonial plantation, Remley’s Point. The grand oak trees in this area were once part of a ship-building era that existed along nearby Hobcaw Creek in the 18th century, and the pristine landscape is still filled with swaying marsh breezes, towering moss-covered trees and gentle tidal creeks.
From any location in the neighborhood, there is a daily panorama of swooping egrets and herons and diving pelicans. The nearby Hobcaw Yacht Club puts on one of the longest-standing sailing traditjons with its annual Summer regatta, and the abundance of rivers and wetlands are perfect for boating, paddling or casting a shrimp net for an evening snack.
The location in Mount Pleasant puts the neighborhood in the most upscale area in Charleston County, with excellent schools, restaurants and recreational facilities, yet River Reach is less than ten minutes from downtown historic Charleston. The feel of River Reach property is that of being secluded in the wonders of nature, with all the benefits of a close proximity to a thriving city with bustling restaurants, cultural events and nightlife.
Later, the rich soil of the area was devoted to crops as part of the Remley’s Plantation in the early 1800’s. By the 20th century, the cool, shaded bluffs were ideal for outdoor activities, and were used by the College of Charleston as recreational sports fields, and this protruding “point” of land overlooking both the River Reach and Charleston Harbor.
Today, the setting is perfect for homes and lots with dazzling vistas of the expansive creek and harbor area. Wonderfully-situated, River Reach at Remley’s Point is within 5 minutes of the grand Arthur Ravenel Bridge spanning the Cooper River into Charleston. Scintillating sun-splashed beaches at Sullivan’s island and the Isle of Palms are less than 15 minutes away. And located in the vibrant Town of Mount Pleasant, the neighborhood is within stone’s throw of exquisite shopping and restaurants, as well as world-class golfing links, health and recreational facilities. Acclaimed eateries nearby include Langdon’s and Graze; there’s exclusive shopping within minutes at Gwynn’s and Whole Foods; and just down the Cooper River is the Patriot’s Point Maritime Museum and golf links.
